Heavy Vehicle Mechanic – Cork City Centre

My client is seeking a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join their expert maintenance team in Cork.

📍 Location: Cork City Centre
🕐 Working Hours: 39-hour week (shift patterns vary by location)
💶 Salary: Starting at €43,317.54, rising to €54,320.99

📄 Contract: Full-time, permanent

About the Role

As part of a dynamic and experienced team, you’ll perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of heavy vehicles to ensure they meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability.

Working Hours & Shift Patterns

We offer a flexible working environment to suit both operational needs and employee preferences.

  • Usual shifts are Monday-Friday, 8:00-16:00.
  • Some teams operate night shifts or weekend rotations.
  • One location features a 4 days on / 3 days off roster with 10-hour intensive shifts.
  • Overall, it’s a 39-hour working week, but shift patterns vary depending on location and business requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across the fleet
  • Identify and resolve technical issues efficiently
  • Maintain accurate service and defect documentation
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • QQI Level 6 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or Construction Plant Fitting (or equivalent)
  • Proven hands-on experience in a heavy vehicle maintenance environment
  • Excellent diagnostic, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills
  • Strong focus on safety, teamwork, and communication
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Desirable (Not Essential):

  • Category D (Bus) Licencean advantage but not a requirement
  • Willingness to obtain a D licence after joining (the company provides full driver training and test support; candidates must obtain their own provisional D licence)
  • Additional certifications such as Manual Handling, Air Conditioning, or Working at Heights are a plus
